What is Reiki?
Reiki is a safe, non-invasive energy healing therapy that helps your body's own healing mechanisms to address physical, emotional, mental and spiritual problems. Reiki does not involve any pressure, manipulation or massage.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word that means universal life force. Rei means the universal wisdom and knowledge, the part of you that makes you tick. Ki means life force, the energy that flows through all living things and is present in all inanimate things. Reiki originated in Japan and was discovered by Dr Mikao Usui. It came to the west in the 1930s.
Reiki works on all the energies of the body. It balances, heals and harmonises the body, mind and spirit by removing negative energy and stagnant/blocked chi - the subtle electromagnetic vibrational particles that we, and everything, are made of. Reiki can also aid personal and spiritual growth. It creates positive energy and calmness and can only be used for the greatest and highest good.
You do not need to believe in Reiki for it to work. All it needs is for you to have the desire to be healthy and allow your body to utilize the Reiki energy as it feels necessary.

What happens in a Reiki Session?
A full Reiki treatment takes approximately one hour, including a consultation. However, please allow some extra time at your first session, as the first consultation usually takes longer. The Reiki is given with you fully clothed except for shoes.
Reiki is usually given whilst you lie on a therapy couch, but can be given whilst seated if that is more appropriate for your needs.
During a Reiki treatment your therapist will position their hands on, or just above, different parts of your body according to your needs. It is a totally non-invasive process.
Your body decides on where the Reiki is needed and utilizes it accordingly. Because Reiki is working with your energy field you may experience a number of sensations such as heat, tingling or coolness.
Above all you should feel relaxed and peaceful during the therapy as the energy flows through your body. It is not uncommon for people to drift off to sleep.
Please remember that Reiki is not a substitute for traditional medical treatment, it is complementary to it, and as such you still need to obtain medical treatment where necessary . |
